Taking part in MTB-OZ rides

Many members of MTB-OZ organise and lead rides in their local areas. These rides simply have the legal status of a group of friends taking part in an activity together. Participation in a ride advertised or organised through MTB-OZ is entirely at the participant or participants' own risk.

Participants in MTB-OZ rides should be equipped with:

  • Two spare tubes
  • A pump
  • A minimum toolkit (Allen keys. screwdriver, chain breaker)
  • Food on longer rides
  • Drinks - water (and sports drinks if necessary)
  • Puncture kit?? for when the tubes run out...
  • First aid kit - not essential for riders but on longer or more remote rides the
  • ride organiser should bring one or ask someone else to do so
  • Mobile phone - useful for getting help, ordering pizza etc.
  • A sense of humour
  • A well-developed sense of their own limitations (this applies especially to list owners and managers)
MTB-OZ rides are generally laid-back affairs. If you want to race, you may find people in any group who'll take you on, but please have the courtesy to wait at the top of the hill for the less fit. Racer-head behaviour is NOT acceptable on 'flower-sniffing' rides, where the objective is to ride socially, look at the view and, yes, sniff the flowers.
