MTB-OZ in-jokes

Like any community, MTB-OZ has developed a set of daft in-jokes. For the benefit of newbies, here are what a few of them mean:

  • <TIC> — This is a ‘tongue in cheek’ tag. It is not expected to be incorporated into any imminent revision of the HTML specs.
  • JohnJohn — This nickname for John Stevenson was coined by his wife, Lesleigh, when she joined the list and promised to deal with anyone who was nasty to “my little JohnJohn.”
  • Mad Friday — A day, by tradition a Friday, when the list has a massive volume of traffic, usually because people are seriously work-avoiding and will post any old crap to the list rather than get on with the work their employers pay them for. Exactly the sort of blatant misuse of the Internet employers are afraid of.
  • Greasing tapirs and buttering goats — A favourite winter discussion topic is whether crank axle tapers should be lubricated or not. The list’s Irreverant Squad (you know who you are) soon turned this into a piss-take, and rightly so. No consensus has been reached as to whether tapirs should be greased or goats buttered, nor have any first hand preferences of tapirs or goats been offered. More research ino this vital area is urgently needed.
  • JJJim — This entry formerly said, "look at his e-mail address and figure it out for yourself," but since Jim Trail no longer has an address at the ABC we should perhaps explain that Jim used to present a show on Triple J before someone decided that yoof meejyah must be presented by people who are too young to have any idea what they're doing...
