As outlined at the AGM, the month of May sees the introduction of a series of long distance rides, being lead from the usual Sunday starting place (opposite the Guildhall, by the Corridor) and starting at 8:00am. The plan was to build up the distances, perhaps starting with a 50 to 60mile ride in March / April, but the icy start to 2010 put a spanner in the works there! So we kick off with an 80mile (for those at the AGM yes I did say 75miles, but having mapped it out 80miles it is J) route to Marlborough, riding some of the best country roads/lanes Wiltshire has to offer. It will be a fantastic days riding, arriving back in Bath between 2:00 & 3:00pm (weather and food stops depending). Check out the schedule below: Date Leader - Ride May, 2010 23rd May, Sunday Jonathan Arnold - VC Walcot Goes Longish. 8:00am start, 80 miles, Bath to Marlborough. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/414177 June, 2010 27th June, Sunday Low Smith - VC Walcot Goes Long. 8:00am start, 90-100 miles to the Cotswold Water Park. July, 2010 25th July, Sunday Low Smith - VC Walcot Goes Long. 8:00am start, 90-100 miles to the River Severn. The rides will be run as club rides i.e. moderate pace and we wait/help out if someone punctures etc. Details of the other rides will follow. Long distance rides are challenging, but the routes are not designed to break you like some of the more demanding Sportives! That said, climbs are inevitable and you will need to be prepared to ride the distance. Currently, no long distance ride is planned for August, but if the idea is popular we can finish off with another one in September. The regular Sunday club ride will still run on the above dates, starting at the usual time of 9:30am. Here's to a busy summers riding for you all. Many regards, Jonathan A. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We have had a good club presence (and some success) at this event in the past and it would be nice to do so again (there are already a few signed up). It is not the fastest course in the region (though good times are still achieved) but it is a very friendly event, with a good range of abilities and cheap 'granny' cake available afterwards that would put the WI to shame (trust me I've tasted a lot of cake). So why not come along, support another local club and have a go... For those of you who have not entered an open event before here is what you need: a) a bike b) to be able to ride it for 10 miles c) be a member of a CTT affiliated club (VC Walcot is, so just make sure you have renewed your membership - form attached) d) to fill in a CTT entry form (attached) and send it to the organiser: A Greatwood 13 Cranmore Close Trowbridge BA14 9BU, along with a cheque for ?7 (payable to Frome and District Wheelers and includes a cup of tea) at least a fortnight in advance. Note our district is West DC. e) ride hard for 10 miles until you feel sick and then grin like idiot knowing you now have a time to beat! This is great intro into racing and is a lot of fun however fast you are. I hope to see some of you there. Don't hesitate to ask me questions - if you don't want to email the whole club click on my email address rather than clicking reply. The regular club ride at 9:30am as normal, lead by Mark Smith. Plus, the first in our summer series of longer club rides will depart Bath at 8:00am from the usual meeting place outside the Corridor (opposite the Guildhall), lead by Jonathan Arnold. The route is a rolling 80 miles out to Marlborough and back. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/414177 Sunshine beckons (that goes for Saturday as well!), so whichever ride you plan on doing make sure your water bottles are full and put some sun tan lotion on the back of those lily white knees! A good weekend to you all, Jonathan. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
